We've all heard it a thousand times; wash your hands, don't touch your face, and sanitize often touched areas of your home, but what about the one area we all spend 1/3 of our lives in (our vehicles)? Your car is just as likely to pick up and spread harmful germs as any other surface area in your life--if not more likely due to its enclosed cabin. So here's the question--how do we clean and sanitize our vehicle's interior without doing any harm to the delicate surfaces like leather, wood, and touch screens? The most important thing you can do is to keep your vehicle's interior cleaned on a regular basis by signing up for our detailing maintenance schedule, but this blog will focus only on the touch points that we often come in contact with. These touch points like the gear shaft, the steering wheel, radio knobs, heat/air controls, etc.. can make us sick if the germ isn't eliminated. Before starting any cleaning/disinfecting-- be sure to wear gloves and / or a mask. Start with Vacuum it is imperative to stat with a deep vacuum. That is the most efficient way to keep your car's interior up and thoroughly clean and according the the CDC virus can live on soft fabrics. One thing you can do is spray your carpet with a light mist of Lysol (if you can locate any), before you vacuum your interior but be careful with Lysol on any other surface beside carpets. Lysol can and will stain plastics, leather, and other hard surfaces easily. Soap and Water A mild dish detergent along with water will kill germ and virus. That is why the CDC is always warning us to hash our hands. Soap and water is the key. You can use a mild dish detergent and warm water with a microfiber cloth to wipe down the touch points in your vehicle. You'll want to do this before applying a leather cleaner. The soap and water will kill the germs and the leather cleaner will soften and make supple your car's leather or vinyl. Diligently wipe down all surfaces with the soap/water/microfiber-- including seat-beats, dash board, console, and cup holders. Steam machine To really address the germs that could be lurking inside your car, a steam machine will provide the 1-2 punch you need. OF course Your Place Auto Detail carries professional grade steamers in the van to penetrate deep into your vents, under your seats, and other vulnerable places germs can hide. Ozone Treatment Last but not least is the use of an Ozone machine to kill germs and viruses. According to ozonesolutions.com "In past studies, 99% of viruses have been damaged or destroyed after 30 seconds of exposure to ozone." Your Place Auto Detail carries an Ozone Machine in our van. This machine emits ozone gas for a duration of 30 minutes. Please let Marcus know if you'll like use of our Ozone Machine before he leaves.
There is no technique and no product that can claim 100% of all virus or germs can be eliminated completely, that's why Lysol states 99.9% on its cans, but with the new Super viruses that are around today mitagation is the best approach we can do, so keep your car sanitized and go wash your hands.
